With the development of modern medicine and methods, the cancer is treatable when it is discovered in its early stages. Women and men should be getting screened from their late 30’s up until their late 50’s.

Breast Cancer Facts:
What Is Breast Cancer?

breast cancer facts A person's breasts go through many changes. Most are normal. It is necessary to be aware of any unusual changes that may be early breast cancer symptoms.

Breast cancer is when a person's breast cells are out of control - they grow in some abnormal fashion. Breast cancers generally are found to start in the milk ducts, although there are other types. This can happen in both men and women.

Tumors inside the breast tend to grow quite slowly. It could take ten years or more before a breast cancer lump is felt. This makes screening for breast cancer critically important.

A breast cancer lump is not always the first sign though. One of the symptoms of inflammatory breast cancer is a breast cancer rash that spreads rapidly and makes the skin look like an orange peel.

Breast Cancer Treatment Options

Traditional screening methods include having a mammogram, but there is a mammogram alternative that detects types of breast cancer much earlier.

Traditional treatments for breast cancer can include surgery, drugs and/or radiation. There are different levels of chemotherapy and radiation that you must discuss with your doctor. You may be able to use a highly targeted yet lower dose for your specific type of cancer.

Alternative treatments for breast cancer might also be used, as many of them have proven to be effective. They are usually taken in conjunction with traditional therapies like surgery.

Unless your doctor is supportive of alternative treatments for breast cancer (either as a part of or in place of traditional methods), a patient will not find much support. Be sure to get a number of opinions from different types of physicians before making your informed choice about treatments for breast cancer.
