Symptoms of Anal Cancer
What causes anal cancer and symptoms to watch for.
Don't mistake symptoms of anal cancer for hemorrhoids! A bleeding rectum is one of the first signs of anal cancer.
Cancer in the anus is slow growing, and there are often few symptoms in the early stages.
It is not the same as rectal cancer.
What causes anal cancer? The main cause of anal cancer is the HPV virus. It is generally transmitted through anal intercourse, but can also be triggered by surrounding areas that are infected.
It really is a rare cancer though. Not many people ever develop actual anal cancer.
If you do develop some of the common symptoms of anal cancer, don't brush it off - it's better to be screened sooner rather than later.
Signs of Anal Cancer
Signs of anal cancer can be:- lumps or small bumps near or on the anus
- bleeding during or between bowel movements
- anal discharge
- pain or itching around or inside the anus
- a marked change in bowel habits
Regular digital rectal exams are a priority, especially if your family has a history of any form of anal, rectal or colon cancer.
Most people diagnosed with cancer of the anus have some form of abnormality that is detectable by the doctor. Cancer of the anus is actually quite simple to diagnose. The doctor will look for firmness, size, mobility of the lump , and will try and determine if it has invaded any other areas in the bowel.
The doctor should also check for any enlargement of your lymph glands in the groin area to help evaluate your situation.
Don't delay going to the doctor if you are experiencing any of these signs and symptoms.
Too often people will not have their concerns checked due to embarrassment or being afraid of being examined in such a way.
Cancer of the anus can be detected fairly early and easily, if you seek treatment when you notice any symptoms beginning.
